Troop 359 PLC notes

1/21/2013

Present:

Peter Mattson, SPL Nick Trembly, ASPL

Brian Chan, Scribe/Bugler Cody Sibley, Librarian

Daniel Walker, Historian Jeff Kreiter, Chaplain’s Aid

Ryan Bishop, Quartermaster Jason Williams, Webmaster/SB Gorillas PL

Josh Riddell, Duct Tape PL Jon Niehaus, Scorpion PL

Brandon Honrath, Ninjas PL

Others: Harrison, Ryan McQuown, Liam N

REPORTS:

Historian – Daniel: The snowshoeing/snow cave prep outing at White River went well. We went snowshoeing for 2 hours, heading out on the trail and going back on the ridge. Some of the snow caves were amazing while others needed work. Lastly, we sledded on a route we made, using Liam’s GoPro camera.

Chaplains Aid – Jeff: Jeff was absent.

Quartermaster – Ryan Bishop: We haven’t done much with the Patrol Boxes lately, but the back stage area has been reorganized so the boxes are all turned around (harder to get into), and the area is more open and organized.

Scribe – Brian: I hope these notes are getting out quick enough for your plans. I apologize to Ryan if the notes on Camporee are off in any way.

Librarian – Cody: The library looks like it is in good shape. Not much has happened recently. He asks that you tell him if you have a book checked out at the moment.

Ninjas – Brandon: No patrol outing happened for the Ninjas. Only one person (Brandon) went to the snowshoeing outing.

Duct Tape – Josh: Josh was absent. (Cody did this report). December’s outing was bowling and arcade games at Big Al’s. Five people from Duct Tape showed up for the snowshoeing outing as well. On the 21st of January, we had a patrol outing to Mountain View Ice Arena (ice skating) for which most of the patrol went to. This February, we plan to go night skiing as a patrol outing.

Scorpions – Jon: In December they went bowling. Four of them showed up. Many of them went to the snowshoeing outing as well.

Silver Backed Gorillas – Jason: Jason says his patrol did three outings in December. One was Santa’s Posse, one was Walk and Knock, and the patrol outing was a movie at Julian’s house. They have a new scout Dakota as well. Lastly, a few of them went to the snowshoeing outing this month.

Webmaster: This position is vacant at the moment. No has been appointed yet. (position was filled by Jonathen Niehaus)

GENERAL BUSINESS:

Scout Sunday at Elim is on Feb. 10th. The special music has already been decided and we need boys who can read well. Anyone who comes will have a job guaranteed.
For Scout Sunday bring cookies for the church.
Ryan M. is a staffer at Camporee. With his help we decided that our top choices of things we want to teach go as follows. First choice: Dutch oven cooking. Second choice: Knots and Lashings. Third Choice: Fire Building. Some patrol or other group of scouts must be willing to teach this. Camporee is in April
Merit Badge Workshop meeting on 2/11. Print out two merit badge worksheets of the ones you want to do (these are on the list on the calendar). The website is http://www.meritbadge.org
Snow caving outing will be on Feb 16-17. The high adventure rule says only people 14 and 1st Class although Mr. Trembly can make exceptions.
Pre-Camporee is in March at Camp Curry.
On March 8-10 Webelo’s Woods is occurring. Many boys have already signed up to help but we need more. We need 2 more, older and experienced scouts (1st class and 14) to help teach fire building a long with the other 6 already signed up.
Brian will be the camp bugler at Camporee.
Many Webelos are crossing over on Feb. 23. Mr. Trembly needs some Scout help.
Please consider Snowshoe backpacking for next year. Many boys said it would be a good idea considering the last outing went so well.
There is going to be a Scoutmaster cook off at Camporee.
Pre-Camporee prep will most likely be focused on cooking with Dutch Oven
Mr. Trembly is visiting a Webelos Den on Feb 5 and needs some volunteers to go with him
A note on Leadership Reports: This time, the reports were much better and seemed like they were prepared in advance.
A note on PLC: PLC at Rocky’s went fantastic. Next time will be back at Elim.
