Red Cross First Aid and CPR Opportunity

Hi All!

I just got this in my e-mail from the Red Cross and wanted to share. It is a good opportunity for anyone wishing to get their CPR and First Aid certifications. You can also get a “free” T-shirt. Registration is $30.00 on line. See the link below.

Mr N

Coming up is a 2-day conference hosted by the Red CrossYouth Council for students across the region to learn leadership qualities and life-saving skills (CPR or First Aid), and enjoy guest speakers. The event is planned and conducted entirely by the Youth Council. It is the largest Youth Council event of the year. If you know anyone 13-18 that would like to sign up here is the link

The event will be held on March 9th and 10th. The deadline for signing up is February 24th. We will keep registration open until March 1st but after February 24th t-shirt sizes will be limited. Thanks so much and have a fabulous night.

Alternate to Snow Camp

I know that not everyone will be going on the Snow Caving  outing this month. Some are too young, some just don’t want to play in that much snow.

I am offering an alternative that may be fun and can earn you a nice looking patch and, for a small increase in price, a medal to wear on your uniform. I, and Jonathen, will be doing the Hoyt Arboretum/Viet Nam Memorial 10 mile hike on Saturday the 23rd of February. We will be doing it for the patch and the hiking miles.

Registration is required for the hike if you wish to get the patch ($5.00) or the patch and medal combo ($10.00). I will be sending in the registration for Jonathen and myself on the 19th. If you wish to join us get me the correct amount for registration by Monday night, the 18th, and then join us at the Hoyt Arboretum Welcome Center by 8:45 AM on February 23rd. Jonathen and I will leave promptly at 9:00. A day pack and especially hydration are necessary. Dress for the weather. I have the map and contact info if anyone would like a copy.

This is NOT a troop event. Jonathen and I are doing it for the hike and we are just asking any interested friends from the troop to join us.

If you have any questions give me a call.  Mr. Niehaus

Next Monday (2/11/13) Meeting

FLASH!!!     FLASH!!!      FLASH!!!

The meeting for Monday, the 11th of February, will be a road trip.

Meet at the Community center as usual but EARLY, at 6:00 PM, for a 6:15 PM departure to hear about Winter Survival in the North West from a former Air Force Academy instructor.

Boy Scout members are invited to a survival seminar by Peter Kummerfeldt. Peter is a highly sought after survival instructor that has been an invited speaker to the Pacific Northwest Sportsman’s Show for the last eleven years. Peter was a survival instructor for the US Air Force for 30 years and then retired and formed his own company, “Outdoor safe”. The last nine years Peter has been gracious enough to visit with Troop 465 and make a presentation on Winter Survival in the Northwest while he is working the Northwest Sportsman’s Show.

All are invited to this presentation which will be held on February 11, 2013 at 7:00 pm at All Saints Parish, 3847 NE Glisan, Portland 97232.

There will not be a regular meeting. This is a lecture that is strongly recommended for all those going on the winter snow cave camp out and for everyone else as well that may find themselves in the outdoors during the winter months.

We will be carpooling, so don’t be late!!! See YOU there!
